Trader joe is LFJ: Swap Tokens and Manage Liquidity Book Positions

Trader joe is the former name of LFJ, a wallet-based exchange whose Liquidity Book divides liquidity among fixed-price buckets called bins. Traders connect a wallet to exchange tokens, while liquidity providers (LPs) deposit token pairs into chosen bins and collect fees from swaps that use them. The active bin establishes the quoted price; larger orders move through neighboring bins and shift execution. LFJ now presents the product under a new name, but the JOE ticker and core Liquidity Book design remain relevant. This handbook covers current identity, costs, swap mechanics, primary uses, setup, position maintenance and alternatives without treating displayed yields or pool depth as permanent values.

The LFJ name now fronts the original Trader Joe exchange

The product previously called Trader Joe now operates as LFJ, while JOE remains the ecosystem token ticker.

That shift matters when wallet labels, token lists and searches for Trader joe still point to Trader Joe. LFJ V2.2 Liquidity Book contracts are deployed on Avalanche C-Chain, Arbitrum One and Monad. These networks use chain IDs 43114, 42161 and 143 respectively, so the wallet network determines which contracts and gas asset a transaction reaches. AVAX pays C-Chain gas, ETH pays Arbitrum gas and MON pays Monad gas. The broader interface aggregates liquidity across more networks, but an LP position belongs to its original chain and pool. Recovery starts by restoring the same address and selecting that network.

Pool fees rise when swaps cross more bins

Liquidity Book charges a pool-specific base fee and adds a variable component when price movement crosses bins.

The bin step anchors pricing and fees: 1 basis point equals 0.01%, while 10,000 basis points equal 100%. A larger step places neighboring prices farther apart. The factory sets approved fee parameters, and the quote reflects the route's pool configuration. The V2.2 pair contract caps total swap fees at 10%, a ceiling rather than a routine rate. Network gas remains separate.

Price impact and fee are different costs. A trade contained inside one funded bin executes at its constant-sum price without within-bin slippage. Depleting that inventory advances execution across more bins. Each crossing changes the price level and updates the volatility accumulator used in variable fees. Read the minimum received figure before signing; the wallet estimates gas separately.

How does Liquidity Book turn bins into a swap?

Liquidity Book routes a swap through the active bin first, then consumes the next funded bins in price order.

The active bin fixes the first price

Each pair stores 2 assets, token X and token Y, plus a 24-bit active ID. Price equals (1 + bin step / 10,000) raised to the active ID offset from 2^23. The 128.128 fixed-point representation assigns 128 bits to integers and 128 bits to fractions. A bin step of 1 makes the next bin exactly 0.01% higher than the preceding bin. These constants let clients reproduce the same quote without a centralized price table.

Crossing a bin changes execution

Within one bin, reserves follow a constant-sum invariant, keeping price fixed until one asset is exhausted. The router finds the next non-empty bin and continues. A large order therefore receives several discrete prices. The volatility accumulator connects rapid bin movement to higher variable fees for active liquidity.

LB tokens preserve each bin share

Deposits mint an LB token balance for every funded bin. LBToken resembles ERC-1155 because one contract tracks many token IDs, yet it omits callbacks and ERC-721-specific functions. Fungible shares inside one bin allocate fees proportionally. Withdrawal burns selected balances and returns the holder's reserve share.

Swaps, liquidity ranges and fee capture serve different jobs

LFJ supports immediate token exchange and active market-making, with each workflow using the same on-chain pools differently.

A swapper chooses input and output assets, an amount and a maximum price change. Exact-input quotes fix the amount sent; exact-output quotes target the amount received. The interface can combine Liquidity Book pools with aggregated venues. AVAX, ETH, MON and USDC serve as real gas assets or trading inventory, with contract addresses separating identical tickers.

An LP selects a pair, bin step, price range and distribution. Spot spreads deposits uniformly across chosen bins. Curve concentrates more weight near the center, while Bid-Ask places more inventory toward the edges. Fees accrue where swaps touch liquidity. Narrow ranges direct capital near the market and exit activity sooner; broad ranges remain active across more movement.

A four-stage setup keeps assets and LP records recoverable

Starting on LFJ requires a compatible wallet, the correct network, trade assets and enough native gas for at least one transaction.

Prepare the wallet and network

Wallet preparation establishes the address and chain that will own the resulting token or LB balance.

LFJ lists six familiar wallet options: Phantom, MetaMask, Rabby, Core, Coinbase Wallet and Trust Wallet. Support still follows the selected chain and signing method. On Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) networks, an account address occupies 20 bytes and displays as 42 hexadecimal characters including the 0x prefix. A transaction hash occupies 32 bytes and displays as 66 hexadecimal characters with the same prefix. Those fixed lengths help distinguish an address from a receipt when recording a position. Fund AVAX on Avalanche, ETH on Arbitrum or MON on Monad before requesting a quote.

Execute, verify and maintain

Execution records the approval, action receipt and resulting balances before maintenance begins.

Stage Backup or recovery standard
1. Prepare wallet Retain the wallet's original recovery method offline, including its recovery phrase or hardware wallet backup.
2. Fund network Record the destination address, chain ID and funding transaction hash.
3. Swap or deposit Keep the on-chain receipt and the exact token or pool contract identifier.
4. Maintain or exit Restore the same address, select the original chain and read its LB token balances.

An ERC-20 swap or deposit may require an allowance before spending tokens. Treat the allowance and action as separate wallet prompts. After confirmation, compare the receipt's chain, status, token movements and LB balances with the intended action. Revisit an LP range when the active bin nears an edge. Withdrawal returns the underlying amounts to the same controlled address.

Range concentration converts fee opportunity into inventory exposure

Concentrated Liquidity Book positions earn only where swaps touch funded bins, tying fee capture directly to range placement and upkeep.

Range exit changes the asset mix

When market price leaves a range, the position stops serving swaps until price returns or liquidity moves. Sustained movement produces a one-sided composition as successive bins exchange one reserve for the other. Its value can lag a simple holding even after fees. Compare deposited amounts, withdrawn amounts and fees rather than an annualized yield.

Manual rebalancing realizes the new mix

Rebalancing withdraws the present reserves and redeploys them around a new active bin.

That sequence locks in the changed inventory before opening a fresh range. It also creates additional on-chain actions and gas costs. The former Auto-Pools on Avalanche and Arbitrum have been sunset, and their automated rebalances are inactive; remaining balances can be claimed through the pool interface. Manual LPs need a review rule based on active-bin distance, fee income and transaction cost. A wider Spot shape reduces review frequency, while a narrower Curve or Bid-Ask placement demands closer attention to price movement and inventory direction. Every rebalance resets where capital can earn.

Approvals and contract versions stay distinct

V2.0, V2.1 and V2.2 pools have separate contracts and positions, even when pair names match. An ERC-20 allowance remains account state until spent, reduced or changed. Confirm the version and pool identifier before adding, removing or migrating liquidity. This record separates an old farm deposit, a direct LB balance and a newer position.

Uniswap v3, Curve and Balancer make different LP trade-offs

Uniswap v3, Curve and Balancer provide established alternatives, but each organizes liquidity ownership and price exposure differently from Liquidity Book (detailed in Open Verify ).

Uniswap v3 concentrates liquidity between ticks and represents positions with ERC-721 NFTs. Liquidity Book uses fungible per-bin balances and constant-sum pricing inside each bin. Curve's StableSwap targets correlated assets, while Balancer weighted pools support unequal weights such as 80/20. Route-only traders can use 1inch or Odos. Compare chain support, asset pair, custody, range control and position contracts.

Trader Joe began on Avalanche and built its identity around automated market maker (AMM) trading before Liquidity Book became the defining mechanism. The current LFJ name covers a broader trading terminal and deployments including Avalanche, Arbitrum and Monad. The JOE schedule set a 500,000,000-token cap across 30 months, with 50% assigned to liquidity providers, 20% to treasury, 20% to the development team and 10% to future investors. Those figures describe token distribution, not swap returns. Choose LFJ when discrete bins and active range control match the intended workload; choose an alternative when its curve, network or position format fits better.

What to know about Trader joe

Does LFJ hold tokens after I disconnect my wallet?

LFJ does not take custody simply because a wallet connects or disconnects. Completed swaps deliver output to the address specified by the transaction, while Liquidity Book deposits mint LB balances representing the address's shares in selected bins. A farm or vault deposit places those position assets in its contract until withdrawal. Disconnecting only ends the browser session; the on-chain balances and approvals remain recorded.

Why is a swapped token missing from my wallet balance?

A completed LFJ swap can succeed even when the wallet interface does not list the output token automatically. Add the asset using its contract or mint identifier on the same network, then refresh the wallet. Compare that identifier with the transaction receipt before importing it. Tickers alone are insufficient because unrelated assets on different chains can display the same symbol while maintaining separate balances.

When can I reclaim funds from an expired LFJ limit order?

Funds from an expired, unfilled LFJ limit order require a manual claim after the expiry condition has passed. Expiry stops further execution; it does not send the reserved assets back automatically. Open the order record with the same wallet and network, submit the claim and verify the receipt. A partially filled order returns only the remaining unfilled amount, while completed portions have already delivered their quoted output.

Is the JOE token still emitted every day?

JOE no longer has daily emissions under the published schedule. The schedule set a 500,000,000-token maximum over 30 months, and minting under it has ended. Some previously locked tokens can still move into circulation, which changes circulating supply without increasing maximum supply. That distinction matters when reading old farm material that describes recurring JOE rewards from the earlier emission period.

Does LFJ support Solana as well as EVM networks?

LFJ's broader trading platform includes Solana alongside EVM networks, but Liquidity Book V2.2 positions use chain-specific contracts and wallet records. Solana uses SOL for fees and mint addresses for token identity, while Avalanche, Arbitrum and Monad use EVM addresses and native gas assets. Select the network first because a position, approval or transaction receipt exists only in that chain's state.

Can a hardware wallet manage a Liquidity Book position?

A hardware wallet can manage a Liquidity Book position when its companion wallet supports the selected network and LFJ connection method. The hardware device signs approvals, deposits, withdrawals and swaps without changing how LB balances appear on-chain. Restore access with the hardware wallet's own backup procedure, then reconnect the same address. A different restored address will not control the original position even if it belongs to the same person.

What happens if an LFJ transaction fails on-chain?

A failed LFJ transaction reverts its token and contract state changes, but the network still charges gas for processing it. Review the receipt status, then request a fresh quote before resubmitting because price and active-bin conditions may have moved. Raising slippage changes the allowed execution boundary; it does not repair insufficient gas, the wrong network or a missing token allowance.

Are Liquidity Book bin shares transferable between wallets?

Liquidity Book bin shares are fungible within each bin, and the LBToken contract supports transfers between addresses. Each bin has its own token ID, so moving one balance does not move shares held in other bins. The receiving address must use the same chain and read the same pool contract to display them. Transfers also shift control of the represented reserve share to the recipient.
